We had gone out to dinner with my mom and some of my family. When we returned home we watched a DVR'd episode of the Amazing Race with Zach before putting him to bed. Then we started another TV show, Convictions. At a commercial break, instead of fast forwarding, Adam paused it and handed me an index card. On it was typed calligraphy, "Scavenger Hunt, April 7, 2006." I turned it over and on it was clue #1: "Think back to when we lived on Meigs. Your next clue can be found in the place where the beer pong table originated."
This clue led me to the laundry room where I found "the past" index card along with one of my favorite candles. On it Adam had written, "We have never tried to block out the memories of the past, even though some are painful. Everything we have lived through has helped us become the couple that we are now." On the other side was clue #2: "think about when we first moved in; your next clue can be found on the first piece of furniture we purchased." This clue led me to the kitchen where we bought our first breakfast table from Crate and Barrel.
On the table were my favorite potato chips and of course, card #3, "the present:" the secret of health for both mind and body is to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly. On the other side, clue #3 read: Think about our lives now. Your next clue can be found by a game we play every Thursday.
Logically, this led to the poker table where i found some of my favorite candy, and of course, card #4, "the future:" the future comes only one day at a time. This last clue read "think of our lives now; this room has something to do with the bar that I worked at." Our bedroom is blue, and Adam worked last summer at the Blue Room. I made my way back up to the bedroom where I found the door closed. I opened the door and there was Adam, on his knee...with a black box in hand.
I was completely shocked. I had no idea this was coming and the emotions came flooding. Not to mention I was genuinely completely curious as to what was in that box. I knew I did not have an exact picture or what I wanted for a ring, and certainly didn't think that Adam would. Well, I couldn't have been more wrong. He did an amazing job, both on the ring, and in surprising me, and most of all in making me incredibly happy.
