Peanut-Free Wedding Cakes?

Hello,

Does anyone know of a person or place that can make a nut-free wedding cake? There are 3 people who are attending my wedding with a pretty serious allergy to nuts.

SO, the trouble with serving a peanut-free cake is guaranteeing that the cake is absolutely peanut-free. It really depends how comfortable your guests are, and my first recommendation would be speaking directly with the guests about that. As a fellow bride (and also a fellow peanut-allergy chick) here are my suggestions:
1. Contacting your baker, and informing him/her of the nut allergy. This is a great place to start, however, some people with very severe allergies will not even be able to eat a cake baked in the same pans/etc. used for nuts. It also might make your guest nervous to eat a cake that was cooked in a shared area, so it is good to discuss that with the guest first.
2. Coordinating a different dessert for the guest. In my personal opinion, not everyone needs to eat cake. I personally have been served fresh fruit, sorbet, or other goodies that were prepared by the chef (at no additional cost to the couple) that were specifically NOT cake for the exact reason as stated above (no cake batter = no chance of cross-contamination!).
3. Picking up a peanut-free cake mix....these are available at Lori's natural foods and at Wegmans.

The main thing here is communication; assuming that a cake is "fine" because there aren't nuts in it is a risk. However, nut allergies are quite common, and with a few simple alterations to the menu, they are easy to work around without stressing. Good luck!

A lot of cakes do not have nuts in them, any baker can work with you just make sure you tell them.
